It's been a long time since the ESPN/USA Today women's basketball coaches' poll has looked like this. Poll PositionsThe top five teams in the ESPN/USA Today poll:
For the first time in nearly four years, the Huskies (9-0) are No. 1. Connecticut, which was ranked second all season, received 29 of 31 first-place votes Tuesday. The Huskies roughed up South Carolina, but it's what Tennessee did that vaulted UConn into the top spot. The Lady Vols (10-1) fell from first with their loss to then-No. 4 Stanford on Saturday. The Cardinal (10-1) now sit right behind the Huskies. North Carolina (12-1) and Maryland (14-1) round out the top five. Texas A&M (9-2) dropped out of the top 10 because of its one-point loss to then-No. 22 George Washington last Thursday. The Aggies are now 12th. That shift made room for Baylor (9-1) to take over at No. 10. Rutgers, Georgia, LSU and Oklahoma join the Lady Bears in the second five. Michigan State (8-4) was the only team to drop out of the poll while undefeated Arkansas moved into No. 23. The top 10 teams in The Associated Press poll mirrored the ESPN/USA Today rankings. |
