Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer announced on his weekly Monday teleconference that he will start true freshman Tyrod Taylor at quarterback Ohio University this Saturday. This relegates Sean Glennon, who struggled in the team's 48-7 loss to LSU, to the bench.

True freshman Tyrod Taylor will get a chance to lead the Hokies' offense after Sean Glennon struggled against LSU on Saturday.

Taylor is an athletic playmaker and reminds some of former Hokies great Michael Vick. His 62 yards passing and 44 yards rushing led the team in both categories against the Tigers on Saturday.

Glennon, a junior who started the last 15 games, will be in a backup role.

"This is not a reflection on Sean [Glennon]," Beamer said. "He's put so much into his preparation, and he's such a competitor. We just feel like with this football team and our offense, Tyrod fits our personnel better right now. This is not easy for us because Sean has put a lot in the program."

Taylor, who did not play in the 17-7 season-opening victory over East Carolina, led Tech on its lone scoring drive in Baton Rouge, scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run.

ESPN's Joe Schad and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
