LOS ANGELES, Calif. (October 3, 2007) " She may have lost her kids, but at least Britney Spears has a driver's license now.

A spokesperson for the California Department of Motor Vehicles confirmed to Access Hollywood that Brit is now officially a licensed driver in the state of California.

"Britney Spears was issued an interim California driver's license [on Tuesday], after she fulfilled all the necessary requirements," DMV spokesperson Mike Marando told Access.

Although she was subjected to the written test (which she passed), Britney did not have to take a driving test after the DMV was able to verify she had a valid out-of-state license from Louisiana.

Brit had her photo taken and was issued a temporary license on Tuesday in Santa Monica. She will carry the temporary paper license until her official new piece of plastic is mailed to her.

As she left the DMV, photographers shot Britney driving away... with blackberry in hand above the steering wheel (pictured above).

On Monday, LA Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon granted temporary physical custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James to Kevin Federline.

And while Gordon would not issue details on why he made his ruling, Brit's attorney Sorrell Trope told People magazine one of the reasons was because she had been seen on numerous occasions driving her kids around, despite the fact she didn't have a California driver's license.
