MANILA (Reuters) - The Philippines' Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order on Tuesday against a $330 million broadband contract between the government and a Chinese telecommunications company, a court spokesman said.

Jose Midas Marquez said a full bench of the court decided to stop the implementation of the contract between the Department of Transportation and Communications and the Chinese telecoms equipment maker ZTE Corp.

"There has been a TRO issued," Marquez told reporters without elaborating. The temporary restraining order was requested by a local company that lost out on the contract.

Lawmakers said the contract was overpriced, suggesting bribes were allegedly given to several officials, including an election commission official who reportedly brokered the deal.

Both houses of Congress have called for a legislative inquiry into the contract, which was signed in April 2007.
