ARMONK, N.Y. (AP) -- Chip maker Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC) said Wednesday it entered a deal to license some of IBM's two-transistor chip technology to strengthen its market position. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. China-based SMIC will use IBM's 45-nanometer bulk complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technology (CMOS), which also requires less power than a single-transistor chip, for its 300mm foundry service. CMOS chips are useful in battery-operated products such as portable computers.
