NEW YORK (AP) -- Standard Motor Products Inc. said Wednesday it agreed to sell its corporate facilities for $40.6 million and will lease 20 percent back for at least 10 years. The auto parts manufacturer also said it reached an agreement with the United Auto Workers union about the shut down of manufacturing operations in Long Island City, N.Y., where its corporate facilities are also located. Standard Motor will relocate the Long Island City manufacturing operations to Reynosa, Mexico, and Independence, Kansas. The long-term lease for 20 percent of its corporate headquarters has an option to renew after 10 years. The company did not say who will buy and leasing the property. "We are pleased that this transaction will enable us to maintain our current office and headquarters operations in Long Island City, so that we can continue to benefit from the skill and experience of our employees," Chief Executive Lawrence Sills said in a statement.
