JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) -- Truckload carrier Contract Freighters Inc., a subsidiary of Con-way Inc., said Wednesday it will buy 140 2007 ISX engines from Cummins Inc. designed to reduce emissions and fuel consumption. Financial terms weren't disclosed. Contract Freighters said the engine is approved by the SmartWay Transport Partnership -- an agreement between the Environmental Protection Agency and various freight carriers aiming at cutting carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions, as well as saving up to 150 million barrels of oil per year. Truckload carriers typically dedicate an entire trailer to one customer and move the freight directly from the shipper to the receiver.
