HOUSTON (AP) -- Bristow Group Inc., which operates helicopters that ferry workers and equipment to offshore oil drilling rigs, said Monday that higher revenue and foreign currency gains helped boost its third-quarter profit 78 percent. Net income for the three months ended Sept. 30 rose to $34 million, or $1.12 per share, compared with $19.1 million, or 79 cents per share, during the same period a year ago. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected earnings of 76 cents per share, on average. Revenue increased to $273.3 million from $224.2 million. Analysts forecast revenue of $258 million. "Increases in operating income, foreign currency gains and earnings from unconsolidated affiliates contributed to the improvement in the latest quarter's net income," the company said in a statement. Shares of Bristow Group rose 87 cents to $49.21 Monday.
