DALLAS (AP) -- Kronos Worldwide Inc., maker of whitening pigments used in paper, paints and plastic, said Monday it swung to a third-quarter loss, due to a hefty tax charge. Quarterly loss totaled $81.2 million, or $1.66 per share, versus a profit of $12.2 million, or 25 cents per share, during the same period last year. The recent quarter's results include a $1.85 per share income-tax charge related to the reduction net deferred income tax asset in Germany. Profit from the company's titanium dioxide pigment segment fell due to lower selling prices, and fluctuations in the foreign currency exchange rates. Revenue rose 4 percent to $343.3 million from $331.6 million. Shares of Kronos jumped 47 cents, or 2.6 percent, to $18.26 in aftermarket activity. Earlier, shares lost 26 cents to end regular trading at $17.79.
