IRVINE, Calif. (AP) -- Biopharmaceutical company IDM Pharma Inc. said Friday data from midstage studies of its two investigational vaccines for lung cancer and advanced melanoma showed they were well-tolerated. The company said results from a Phase 2 study of non-small cell lung cancer drug IDM-2101 showed the vaccine was well-tolerated and also led to longer patient survival rates, compared with patients who were not vaccinated. As a result, the company intends to advance plans for the drug and expects final results from the trial next year. IDM Pharma also reported updated results from a Phase 2 trial for its melanoma vaccine, Uvidem, which was found to be well-tolerated in a study of 33 patients. The midstage study found a small portion of patients could control their disease by stimulating their immune system cells, with minimal side effects. Out of the 33 patients treated, 9, or 33 percent, benefited from treatment. The company said 18 out of 29 patients showed a significant increase related to immune response. Shares of Irvine, Calif.-based IDM Pharma rose 10 cents, or 7.2 percent, to $1.49 in afternoon trading.
