American Honda Reports Sales Up an Adjusted 14 Pct in September; Accord, CR-V See Strong Gains

TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) -- American Honda Motor Co. Inc. said Tuesday that adjusted September sales rose 14 percent as sales increased sharply for its CR-V crossover sports utility vehicle and Accord sedan.

Total sales climbed to a record 127,200 vehicles in September, compared with 116,226 vehicles sold in September 2006. Adjusting for one fewer selling days this year, sales increased 13.6 percent.

The company said it sold 71,967 cars in September, an adjusted increase of 11.5 percent over the previous year's 67,112. Truck sales gained 17 percent to 55,233, up from 49,114 previously.

Sales of the automaker's top selling Accord rose 31.2 percent to 35,031. However, sales of No. 2 model Civic declined 2.2 percent to 24,752. Sales of the CR-V shot up 68.7 percent to 19,769, from 12,185 a year ago.

Sales at the company's high-end Acura division fell by an adjusted 8.4 percent to 14,369, from 16,323 previously.

So far this year, American Honda has sold 1,193,520 vehicles, an increase of 2.8 percent over last year's 1,160,510.
