Wall Street registered slight declines Friday as Wall Street finished the third quarter on a cautious note. The major stock indexes finished the quarter higher, and Friday saw solid readings on consumer spending, construction spending, inflation and Midwest manufacturing. But investors have yet to see how most companies weathered the summer's market turbulence. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 17.31, or 0.12 percent, to 13,895.63. The Standard & Poor's 500 index lost 4.63, or 0.30 percent, to 1,526.75. The Nasdaq composite index declined 8.09, or 0.30 percent, to 2,701.50. For the week: The Dow is up 75.44, or 0.55 percent. The S&P is up 1.00, or 0.07 percent. The Nasdaq is up 30.28, or 1.13 percent. For the quarter: The Dow is up 487.01, or 3.63 percent. The S&P is up 23.40, or 1.56 percent. The Nasdaq is up 98.27, or 3.77 percent. For the year: The Dow is up 1,432.48, or 11.49 percent. The S&P is up 108.45, or 7.65 percent. The Nasdaq is up 286.21, or 11.85 percent.
