The No. 4 U.S. investment bank's third-quarter profits fell less than expected, as strength in stock trading and investment banking offset losses from the struggling mortgage market. American Express Co., up $1.32 at $59.52. The company said it is selling its international banking division to London-based bank Standard Chartered PLC for nearly $1.1 billion to focus on its credit card business. Best Buy Co. Inc., up $1.96 at $46.50. The nation's largest consumer electronics retailer said its fiscal second-quarter profits rose 8.7 percent amid strong international results and tighter spending controls. NASDAQ Factory Card & Party Outlet Corp., up $8.12 at $16.17. The party supply chain agreed to be acquired by AAH Holdings Corp. for $56.1 million and reported its fiscal second-quarter profit increased. Millennium Pharmaceuticals Inc., up 41 cents at $10.18. The company said a late-stage clinical trial showed its drug Velcade is effective in treating newly diagnosed cases of multiple myeloma. UTStarcom Inc., up 36 cents at $3.45. The maker of telecommunications equipment detailed plans to boost revenue growth and profitability, including efforts to reduce quarterly operating expenses by $10 million to $15 million and outsource some operations.
