ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Spartech Corp., which makes plastic alloys and finished molded products, said Wednesday its fiscal third-quarter profit fell 17 percent on a drop in revenue. For the quarter ended Aug. 4, Spartech earned $8.8 million, or 27 cents per share, compared with $10.6 million, or 33 cents per share, for the same quarter in 2006. Excluding one-time charges, the company posted an adjusted profit of $10.1 million, or 31 cents per share, compared with an adjusted $14.2 million, or 44 cents per share, for the 2006 period. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected a profit of 32 cents per share. Revenue fell 4.4 percent to $361.1 million from $377.7 million in the year-ago period. Spartech attributed the drop in sales to lower demand from the transportation, recreation and leisure markets. Spartech shares fell 84 cents, or 4.5 percent, to $17.88 in regular trading.
