NEW YORK (AP) -- Humana Inc. helped lift the Standard & Poor's 500 Index to a higher finish on Wednesday, after the health insurer said it planned to reaffirm its earnings outlook for 2007. Shares of Humana gained $3.16, or 4.9 percent, to $67.56 and hit a 52-week high of $68.76 earlier in the session. Mattel Inc. rose 92 cents, or 4.2 percent, to $22.82. Mattel's chief executive on Wednesday said he aimed to improve the safety of the company's toys following a series of recalls. And Cigna Corp. gained $1.95, or 3.7 percent, to $54.17. On Monday, the health insurer affirmed its full-year outlook for adjusted operating income and membership in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The S&P 500 rose 0.06 points to 1,471.55. Among laggards on the index, shares of King Pharmaceuticals Inc. slipped 85 cents, or 6.4 percent, to $12.35, also touching an annual low of $12.26. The drug company's stock continued a decline from the previous day, when a court invalidated patents protecting the company's blood pressure medication. SanDisk Corp. lost $2.50, or 4.6 percent, to $51.75, after an analyst said a recent lower contract price is a modest near-term negative. And Teradyne Inc. shed 62 cents, or 4.2 percent, to $14.12.
