TOKYO (AP) -- Japan's current account surplus rose 4.5 percent in July from a year earlier, expanding for the seventh straight month, the Ministry of Finance said Wednesday. The surplus in the current account stood at 1.856 trillion yen (US$16.25 billion; euro11.75 billion) in July before seasonal adjustment, the ministry said. The surplus, the broadest measure of Japan's trade with the rest of the world, was below a forecast of 1.9195 trillion yen (US$16.8 billion; euro12.15 billion) by economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires and Nikkei. The current account measures trade in goods, services, tourism and investment. It is calculated by determining the difference between Japan's income from foreign sources against payments on foreign obligations and excludes net capital investment. In June, the current account rose 48.4 percent from a year earlier.
