TUSCON, Ariz. (AP) -- Defense contractor Raytheon Co. said Tuesday it delivered a non-lethal defense system to the U.S. Air Force. Financial terms were undisclosed. The system, called Active Denial System 2, uses wave energy to repel people without injuring them. The system emits a focused beam of millimeter-wave energy that slightly penetrates the skin producing an "intolerable heating sensation" that causes a person to flee, Raytheon said. Raytheon built the system for the Air Force under the Office of the Secretary of Defense's advanced concept technology demonstration program. Shares rose 25 cents to $59.89 during morning trading.
